Wonder

We have been reading the book, Wonder and now finally, we all get to see the new movie based on the book!

This week, we will be reading a story that is actually a play.  It's all about a young girl and her friends who use their imaginations to invent a great way to spend their afternoon together.

Farm to Table


We had a wonderful visit from the Cook County Farm Bureau, where we learned information about agriculture in Illinois.

Think of all the interesting facts we learned:

Illinois' number one product is CORN.

Illinois grows more PUMPKINS than anywhere else in the world.

Scientists and Food Engineers use crops to make crayons, ink and even baby diapers!

Letters Home From Yosemite

Good Morning 4th Graders!

For the next two weeks, we will be reading a non-fiction story about Yosemite National Park.  Have you ever heard of that national park?  It's protected land located in the mountains of California.  This land is protected so that no one can build on it or destroy the nature that is there.

Good morning, 4th graders!

Have you ever heard of a fairy tale?  A fairy tale is a story that usually includes some kind of fantasy or magic, as well as a moral or lesson.

Have you ever heard of a fractured fairy tale?  A fractured fairy tell is a version of a well-known fairy tale that changes something about it, like the setting or some of the character traits.

For the next couple of weeks, we will be reading a fractured fairy tale of a famous story you may recognize.  You may watch a video below of another fractured fairy tale.

Because of Winn Dixie Spelling

We use this blog in our classrooms to help you find activities online that will help your learning.   Sometimes, you will visit websites.  Sometimes you will get to watch short videos that relate to what we are learning in class.

Today, you will visit a website called Spelling City which has practice activities and games to help you learn your spelling words.  First, you will take a practice test.  After the test, you will report your errors to your teacher and practice the words.  After all of this is done, you may play one o the games on Spelling City that uses your words.

Remember to focus and concentrate on studying.  You will have a spelling test on Friday!

Paper Bag Book Reports

Good morning, 4th graders!

For the rest of the school year, our reading project will be "Paper Bag Book Reports." You have (hopefully) chosen a story to read and you and your group members will be creating a book report project to present to our class.

The Lost City

Have you ever heard of Macchu Picchu?  That's pronounced like "MA-CHU PI-CHU".  This is a very special place located in Peru, a country in South America.  Macchu Picchu is considered to be a "lost city." It has an amazing history, and then one day, it was just gone!

Marven of the Great North Woods

Good morning 4th graders.  For the next two weeks, we will be reading the story "Marven of the Great North Woods" about a young boy - only 10 years old - who goes to live on a lumberjack camp in order to escape a flu epidemic that could make him sick.
