Summer Reading: Because of Winn Dixie

Hello Incoming 4th Graders!

Your new teachers are so excited to meet you in the Fall.  Until then, we are hoping that you will be able to read the book we chose for you "Because of Winn Dixie" by Kate DiCamillo.  It's a wonderful story about adventure, unlikely friendships, creativity, and most of all, a really great dog named Winn Dixie!



Each of you received a copy of the book, so you can start reading anytime.  On this website, you can find links to audio versions of each chapter of the book to help you along the way!

Use this YouTube playlist to follow along LISTEN to each chapter of Because of Winn Dixie.  There are 26 chapters in total, but each chapter is only between 5 and 10 minutes long!

Read and listen to just a little bit each day and you will be done before you know it! Remember to complete your book report packet and bring it to us in the Fall to earn your treat from Chipotle!

Encantado Chromebook Centers

UNIQUE AND MYSTERIOUS ANIMALS

In this center, you will be gathering information about mysterious animals.  

You first need to choose an animal from the list provided.  You will need at least 3 qualities that describe your animal.  You will also need to list some unique qualities of the pink dolphin.  

Be sure to explain your information and do a nice job!  This graphic organizer will prepare you for your writing test later this week!

So You Want To Be President?

Last year, we elected our 45th President.  You will be learning some interesting facts about some of the Presidents when we read the story "So You Want To Be President?"

You may watch the short video below.  This video shows the only 5 Presidents who are still alive.  They met at the Oval Office on January 7, 2009 -- right after President Barack Obama took office. This video was recorded before Donald Trump was president, which is why he is not included.  Maybe all 6 will meet one day soon!

Marven of the Great North Woods

Good morning 4th graders.  For the next two weeks, we will be reading the story "Marven of the Great North Woods" about a young boy - only 10 years old - who goes to live on a lumberjack camp in order to escape a flu epidemic that could make him sick.

Watch the video below about lumberjack camps from the 1940s.   This video shows lumberjacks working in California.  In the story we will read, the lumberjacks work in Northern Minnesota, a different (and much snowier place!)
